Description

The Kaleido M6 is where "home roaster" stops meaning "small batch" - a genuine drum roaster built for someone already roasting regularly who's outgrown the M2's 400g ceiling, without needing the M10's scale or price.

It's a step up in capacity, not a different category: same Artisan compatibility across Standard, Pro, and Dual control variants, same drum-roasting fundamentals you'd get from any Kaleido machine - just built to keep up with a household that goes through more coffee, or a hobbyist who's started roasting for friends and family alongside themselves.

Be honest with yourself about two things before buying at this size: batches this large produce real smoke, more than a 200-400g machine, and most M6 owners are roasting in a garage with the door open or through dedicated external venting rather than a kitchen extractor fan - plan your roasting space accordingly, not as an afterthought. And if "roasting for friends and family" is likely to tip into something closer to regular small-batch selling, the M10's extra headroom is worth pricing out before you commit - the M6 will do it, but you'll be running it closer to capacity than a drum roaster this size is most comfortable at long-term.

Built for High-Volume Home Roasting

Right-sized for cutting your roast frequency further
Owners moving up from a 400g machine describe the M6 as the point where roasting stops being a weekly chore - several run 3-4 back-to-back batches in a sitting, turning what used to be multiple evenings into one session with a proper pound of coffee to show for it.

Headroom without commercial economics
One owner settled on the M6 specifically because their weekly 450g need fit it perfectly, with room to grow — enough that they didn't feel boxed in, but not so much machine that they were paying for capacity they'd never use.

A genuine step into Artisan, same as the rest of the range
Independent bean and environment probes feed a live curve straight to Artisan on Pro and Dual - the same software, the same vocabulary, that scales all the way up to the M10 if you ever outgrow this one.

Which version do I need?

  • Standard – Roasts entirely from the attached 7" touchscreen running Kaleido's own software. No computer needed. No Artisan connectivity.
  • Pro – No touchscreen. Driven by Artisan on your Windows or Mac laptop via USB or Bluetooth. Kaleido's official Artisan sponsorship means it's properly supported, not an unofficial config file someone's shared online. The cheapest way in if you already know you want full control. [This is the variant that matches your brief — an Artisan-focused, moderate-volume buyer — recommend as the lead variant rather than Dual]
  • Dual – Both: touchscreen roasting straight out of the box, and Bluetooth Artisan when you want to go deeper. A nice way to hedge if you're not sure yet how far into profiling you want to go.

Can't be run from an iPad or iPhone - Artisan needs Windows or Mac, and the Kaleido system lives on the machine's own touchscreen (Standard/Dual only).

Who is the Kaleido M6 best suited for?

Anyone already roasting regularly on a smaller machine who's outgrowing it - reloading mid-session, or running several small batches a week just to keep up.

Households or hobbyists roasting enough that a 700g machine means real batches, not maximum-capacity ones - most owners settle around 500-600g rather than pushing the ceiling every time.

Anyone occasionally roasting for friends and family alongside themselves - the M6 handles that comfortably, and it's a genuinely common reason owners buy this size rather than the M2.

Probably not the one for you if you're roasting to sell at any real, regular volume - that's a different set of economics and the M10 is the sensible starting point instead. And if you'd rather skip the software entirely, our Standard variant runs from its own touchscreen with no computer needed.

Ventilation

At 700g a batch, expect proper smoke past first crack - more than you'd get from the M2, and no roaster this size gets around it entirely. Most M6 owners roast in a garage with the door open, or run some light flexible ducting out to the open air; a kitchen extractor hood on its own is unlikely to keep pace at this batch size.

Worth knowing: Kaleido's own advice, true across the whole range, is not to hard-attach ducting straight onto the exhaust. Instead, hover a wider intake funnel a few inches away, with a small inline extraction fan if you want more pull. If you don't have a garage or an external vent point, factor that into your decision now rather than after delivery.

I run the M6 Pro and get through about a 0.5kg of coffee a batch, with 3-4 batches back to back in an hour when I need to catch up. Artisan's straightforward once you're set up.

I upgraded from a Kaleido M2 to the M6 Dual because the M2 was a bit too small for my needs. Artisan was a little tricky to set up, but it's wonderful once it's running - well worth the effort.

I upgraded to the M6 Pro after 10 years on a Behmor. I typically roast around 450g a week, and the M6's been the right size for that with room to grow if I need it.

Frequent Questions

How much coffee can the Kaleido M6 roast at one time?

200g up to 700g per batch, with most owners settling around 500-600g for the most even results.

How long does a roast take on the Kaleido M6?

4–10 minutes, thanks to the hot-air circulation on this hardware - faster and more even than the direct-fire-only roasters some competitors still sell.

Is the Kaleido M6 compatible with Artisan roasting software?

Yes, on the Pro and Dual variants. The Standard variant runs Kaleido's own touchscreen software only.

What power supply does the Kaleido M6 need? Does it need a dedicated circuit?

No - on 230V mains, the M6 draws around 9.6A on its 2200W element, well within a standard 13A socket. No dedicated circuit or electrician visit required.

Can the Kaleido M6 be controlled from an iPad or iPhone?

No. Artisan requires a Windows, Mac, or Linux device - no iOS support currently.

Is the Kaleido M6 good for a small coffee roasting business?

It can handle light, occasional volume beyond your own kitchen - several owners roast for friends and family on it - but it's not built as a commercial machine. If you're planning to roast regularly for resale, the M10 gives you more headroom before you outgrow it.

Does the Kaleido M6 need ventilation or smoke extraction?

Yes, more than the smaller machines in the range. See the Ventilation section above before you buy.

What warranty does the Kaleido M6 come with?

Minimum 12-month warranty, standard across the range.
