Commercial Green Coffee Beans

Commercial Green Coffee Beans

Unroasted commercial-grade green coffee for blends, espresso bases and everyday volume. These are clean, consistent coffees graded to export standards – screen size and defect counts – rather than traced to a single farm, which is what keeps the price down. The range covers sweet natural Brazils, washed Colombian Excelso, Kenyan, Peruvian Fairtrade and Ugandan coffees, plus Robusta from India and Vietnam for crema and body. They're the dependable workhorses of a roastery: a blend component, a house espresso, training stock or a lower-cost option on your menu. Buy from 0.5kg to test, then in 5kg bags – and for a fuller choice of everyday espresso coffees, see our green coffee for espresso. Looking for roasted coffee? Everything here is raw – here's how to start roasting.

  • What commercial-grade green coffee means

Commercial coffee is graded and traded by standard specifications rather than by farm. A name like 'Brazil NY 2/3 Scr. 14/16' tells you the defect grade (NY 2/3) and bean size (screen 14/16); 'Colombia Excelso EP' means the Excelso size grade with European Preparation, a stricter hand-sort for defects. Our green coffee grading guide explains the codes. You get a known, repeatable quality without the traceability premium of a microlot.

  • Commercial vs specialty green coffee

Specialty lots are scored, traceable and often distinctive; commercial coffees are chosen for clean, consistent flavour at a lower price. Many roasteries use both – commercial coffee as the body of a blend or high-volume espresso, with specialty lots from our 81–84 and 85–88 ranges for single origins and filter. If cost is the main driver, it's worth reading what makes green coffee good value before you choose.

  • Using commercial coffee in blends and espresso

A natural Brazil is the classic base: sweet, nutty and low in acidity. Washed Colombian adds structure, and a portion of Robusta brings crema, body and caffeine to a milk espresso. Roast components separately and blend after for the most control. Our milk-based espresso range and espresso buyer's guide cover building a house shot.

  • Certified commercial lots

Some of our commercial coffees carry certifications – Fairtrade on the Peruvian, Rainforest Alliance on the Kenyan, and a carbon-neutral natural Brazil. Certification tells you something about how a coffee was produced and traded, though not everything; our article on whether Fairtrade is really fair looks at the trade-offs honestly.

Your questions, answered

What is commercial-grade green coffee?

Coffee graded to standard export specifications – size and defect count – rather than sold as a traceable farm lot. It's clean, consistent and priced below specialty microlots.

Are commercial coffees traceable?

To country and usually region, and graded to a published standard, but not normally to a single farm. If farm-level traceability matters, see our seasonal green coffee.

Are commercial green coffees any good?

Yes, for what they're for. They won't have the complexity of an 87-point microlot, but they're clean, sweet and reliable – ideal for blends, espresso and volume.

What does 'screen 14/16' mean?

The bean size, measured by the holes in grading screens in 64ths of an inch. Screen 17/18 beans are larger than 14/16. Consistent size helps beans roast evenly.

What does EP mean on Colombian coffee?

European Preparation – a stricter standard that limits defects through extra hand or machine sorting.

Can I use commercial coffee for espresso?

Absolutely. Natural Brazils and washed Colombians make dependable espresso bases, and a little Robusta adds crema and body for milk drinks.

Do you sell commercial green coffee in bulk?

Yes. All commercial lots come in 5kg bags, and approved wholesale accounts can order 10kg and 20kg at lower per-kilo prices. For ongoing volume, see wholesale green coffee beans.

Is Robusta commercial grade?

Often, though not always – good Robusta is increasingly sold as specialty. Our commercial Robustas are chosen for clean body and crema in blends.

Do you offer samples or trial batches before committing to larger orders?

Yes, we offer samples for most of our coffees. If you need a larger sample than what’s typically available, we recommend trying one of the smaller quantity options listed on our site. That way, you can test the coffee before committing to a larger order.

What sizes or quantities can I order?

All our green coffee beans come in 0.5kg, 1kg and 5kg bags. Approved wholesale accounts can also order 10kg and 20kg at lower per-kilo prices, and for full sacks or anything larger, just get in touch – we'll help you put a custom order together.
