  • What is clearance coffee, and why is it discounted?

Clearance coffee includes beans from previous harvests or those we’ve had in stock for a little longer. While still high quality, green coffee naturally changes over time, and some delicate flavours can start to fade. To reflect this, we offer these coffees at a discounted rate, making them a great option for roasters looking for value without compromising too much on quality.

  • How does the flavour of clearance coffee compare to fresh harvests, and how is it stored?

Over time, green coffee can lose some of its vibrancy, with acidity and complexity softening. However, we store all our coffee—including clearance lots—under ideal conditions to help preserve flavour. This means stable moisture levels of 60%, room temperature without extremes, protection from light, and minimal air exposure. With the right storage, clearance coffees can still offer great character in the cup.

  • How long will clearance coffee stay fresh?

When stored properly, clearance coffees can still perform well for months. While some delicate notes may fade, body, sweetness, and roast development potential remain strong. We recommend roasting and using them within a reasonable timeframe to enjoy them at their best.

Do clearance coffees include rare or experimental lots?

Occasionally, yes—but these tend to sell out quickly. Experimental fermentations, unusual varieties, and limited-run microlots sometimes make it into clearance, offering a rare chance to pick up something unique at a lower price.

Will clearance coffee still develop well in roasting?

Yes, clearance coffee still roasts well, though you may need to make slight adjustments. Older beans sometimes benefit from a gentler heat application early in the roast to retain complexity. With the right approach, clearance coffee can still produce well-balanced, flavourful results.
