Key Details:

Description

The DiFluid R2 Extract is a premium coffee refractometer designed for those who want complete clarity over their brews. With ±0.02% precision, advanced temperature compensation, and a high-contrast colour display, it gives you more control, more insight, and more confidence in every cup.

It builds on the R1 with improved accuracy, faster thermal stability, and a sleek aluminium sample dish that delivers stable readings, even with minimal sample volume. Whether you’re adjusting grind size, water ratio or brew time, the R2 helps you pinpoint what’s working - and replicate it with consistency.

How is the R2 different from the R1 Extract?

The R2 takes everything the R1 does and makes it sharper. It offers better precision (±0.02% vs ±0.03%), a full-colour display, and an aluminium sample dish that improves thermal conductivity for quicker, more stable readings. It’s also heavier, more robust, and built for faster workflows. If you’re measuring regularly or need tighter tolerances, the R2 is the step up.

Why does measuring TDS matter in brewing?

TDS (total dissolved solids) tells you how much of the coffee has made it into your cup. With this data - and your recipe - you can calculate extraction yield. That means you’ll know whether your coffee is under- or over-extracted and how to adjust. The R2 helps translate what you taste into numbers you can track and improve on.

Is it easy to use for day-to-day brewing?

Yes – the R2 is designed for daily use in cafés, labs, and roasteries. The user interface is clean and intuitive, the sample dish is easy to rinse, and the IP67 rating means you can wash it under the tap without worry. And with the DiFluid app, you can store, analyse and share results quickly.

Great! These guys sell green beans in small enough quantities to be useful for the home roaster (me, my frying pan). Also I love their approach to the local grower communities. I like to keep my consumables supply chains as short as possible; with GCC I feel very close to the growers and local processors. Plus the coffee is fantastic!

I am a coffee roaster, I started looking for green coffee. The best option in price, shipping and variety of quality beans and it always supplies me on time all the time I have been working with Green Coffee Collective

I've just recently started buying from the Green Coffee Collective and I'm really impressed with the coffees I've tasted so far.

Frequent Questions

Is this more accurate than the R1 Extract?

Yes – the R2 has ±0.02% precision (compared to ±0.03% on the R1), and features like the aluminium sample dish and Microcalibration layer make results even more stable.

Can I rinse it directly under water?

You can - the R2 is IP67 rated, so it's splash- and dust-resistant. Just avoid submerging it fully and make sure the USB-C port is dry before charging.

Do I need to use the app?

Not necessarily. The R2 displays all key data on the device itself. But the app adds extra features like brew logging, recipe sharing, and Golden Cup targets, which are especially useful in team environments.

How long does the battery last?

The built-in 430mAh battery offers excellent standby time and charges via USB-C. With moderate use, you’ll get weeks of operation from a full charge.
