  • What makes Indian coffee special?

Indian coffee is unique for its smooth, balanced flavours, including notes of spice, earthiness, and chocolate. Indian coffee benefits from the country’s high altitudes, lush monsoon climates, and volcanic soils. These factors combine to produce coffee with a smooth, well-rounded taste, often with a mild acidity and spicy, earthy, and smoky flavour notes. It is also recognised for its distinct processing methods, including washed, natural, and monsooned processes, which reduces acidity and adds a distinct sweetness and earthiness. With its diverse regions and unique processing methods, Indian coffee delivers a truly distinctive experience.

  • Which region in India has the best coffee?

India has several regions that produce high quality coffee:
Karnataka, India’s largest coffee-producing state, accounts for over two-thirds of the country’s total coffee cultivation. The majority of this cultivation takes place in the picturesque Western Ghats which is renowned for its shade-grown coffee, nurtured in the region's nutrient-rich soil, which helps produce beans with complex and nuanced flavors. Karnataka’s ideal weather and altitude create perfect growing conditions for both Arabica and Robusta varieties, solidifying its reputation as the heart of India’s coffee production.
In Kerala, mainly robusta beans are cultivated. In the Wayanad district, Robusta beans are grown which have a high level of acidity and body whereas Idukki and Palakkad Arabica beans are also grown.
In Tamil Nadu, low temperatures and highly fertile soil leads to coffee with a strong acidity and fruity flavours.
Andhra Pradesh is a tribal region known for producing high quality, organic coffee with a rich flavour and chocolatey notes.
Odisha has the perfect conditions for growing Arabica coffee (cool climate, high altitude, and rich soils) with a focus on sustainability farming initiatives.

  • What are the varietals of coffee grown in India?

India boasts a rich selection of coffee varietals, each with unique flavours and characteristics that reflect the country’s diverse growing regions.
Kent beans, the first Arabica variety grown in India, are prized for their delicate acidity and notes of nuts and dark chocolate. Though grown in limited areas today, they remain a symbol of exceptional quality.
Selection 795 is India’s most popular Arabica varietal. Known for its bold beans and superior quality, it often delivers flavors of maple syrup, caramel, and brown sugar, particularly in darker roasts.
Catimor is a Bourbon mutation that offers a bright, crisp profile with medium body, a fine aroma, and a vibrant citrus aftertaste, perfect for those who enjoy a lively cup.
Selection 9, an award-winning Ethiopian derivative, combines flavours of nuts, orange, lemon, caramel, chocolate, and mandarin, offering a complex and refined coffee experience.

  • How Do We Secure Partnerships with Indian Farmers?

We partner with Indian farmers through our collaboration with the South India Coffee Company (SICC), a trusted leader in sustainable coffee production. Founded in 2017 by Akshay Dashrath and Komal Sable, fifth-generation coffee producers from Coorg, SICC is dedicated to creating a transparent supply chain for Indian specialty coffee.
SICC works directly with farmers to ensure fair compensation while promoting sustainable growing practices. Their expertise and deep roots in one of India’s oldest coffee-growing regions allow us to source high-quality green coffee that embodies the rich heritage and unique flavors of Indian coffee.
With SICC’s operations spanning the USA, UK, and India, and partnerships across Saudi Arabia, Europe, and Singapore, they provide seamless logistics and warehousing solutions, making it easier for us to bring exceptional Indian coffees to the global market. Together, we aim to support farmers economically, protect the environment, and elevate the reputation of Indian coffee worldwide.

What is the Green Coffee Collective?

We’re a community of coffee producers and sourcing experts, all working together to make green coffee easy to access—whether you’re a hobby roaster at home or a professional roasting hundreds of tonnes a year. Our platform is designed to simplify buying green coffee, just like any other online shopping experience. No fuss, just great coffee at your fingertips.

How does Green Coffee Collective support my business growth?

Our vision is to make amazing coffee accessible to roasters of all sizes. We provide all the marketing materials and storytelling you need to showcase the origins of our coffees. If there’s anything missing that’s holding you back from making a purchase, just let us know! We’re always looking for ways to improve and make our products and information even more transparent. Many roasters have successfully scaled their offerings with our support, and we’re here to help you do the same.

What is your minimum order quantity (MOQ) for large-scale or long-term contracts?

For larger-scale or long-term contracts, you can start with as little as a single bag. We’re also working on tools to help you access harvests and reserve coffees before they even leave the country. While it’s not fully ready yet, we’re always here to help roasters of any size connect with the producers they want to work with.

What is your process for ensuring consistency between lots or harvests?

We work closely with our sourcing partners to make sure we’re always offering top-quality coffee. Most of the partners you’ll find on our site have years of experience in their regions, and they use that expertise to access the best coffees available each season. Their deep relationships with producers help maintain consistency in both quality and supply.

Do you offer samples or trial batches before committing to larger orders?

Yes, we offer samples for most of our coffees. If you need a larger sample than what’s typically available, we recommend trying one of the smaller quantity options listed on our site. That way, you can test the coffee before committing to a larger order.

What sizes or quantities can I order?

We offer coffee starting from as little as 0.5kg (1 lb) all the way up to full sacks. If you’re looking for larger quantities than what’s listed on our site, just get in touch! We’d be happy to help you organise and place a custom order. We're here to make sure you get exactly what you need.
