Meet your producer

Name Phoka Coffee Cooperative
Location Phoka Hills, Northern Malawi See on a map

Phoka Coffee Cooperative is a small-scale producer located in the beautiful Phoka Hills of Northern Malawi, where coffee is grown at altitudes ranging from 1300 to 2500 meters. The cooperative benefits from a temperate climate and consistent rainfall, creating favorable conditions for coffee farming in villages like Chakaka, Mphachi, Salawe, and Junju, near Nyika National Park.

Founded in 2019 after separating from the Mzuzu Coffee Association, Phoka Coffee has partnered with Satemwa Tea and Coffee for milling, grading, and export support. This partnership helps ensure the cooperative’s coffee is processed and prepared for international markets with care.

Phoka Coffee Cooperative focuses on training farmers in sustainable farming methods, including careful picking of ripe cherries and proper processing at local washing stations. The coffee is then transported to Satemwa for further processing and sample testing before it’s packaged for export.

With a deep connection to the local community and a commitment to producing quality coffee, Phoka Coffee Cooperative strives to offer a unique product while supporting the livelihoods of its farmers.
