Cupping Notes

This coffee offers a rich and indulgent experience, with a full body that carries a deep sweetness reminiscent of molasses and sticky dates. The flavor profile is further enhanced by vibrant notes of fruit candy, adding a playful, fruity brightness to the cup. The coffee’s sweetness is layered and lingering, creating a delightful balance between its bold body and the lively, sweet undertones.

Name Green Land Estate
Location Mandalay Division and Northern Shan State See on a map

Nestled on the scenic road between Pyin Oo Lwin and Mogok, near the border of Mandalay Division and Northern Shan State, lies Green Land Estate—a beacon of innovation and tradition in Myanmar’s burgeoning coffee industry. This family-run estate is led by U Sai Wan, whose lifelong connection to the region's coffee farms began during childhood trips from Yangon to visit family in Northern Shan. Those early memories have blossomed into a passion that now drives one of the largest Arabica plantations in the country, spanning an impressive 450 acres.

Under U Sai Wan's leadership, Green Land Estate has become a cornerstone of Myanmar’s coffee landscape, consistently earning top honors at the nation’s prestigious quality competitions. His influence extends beyond the estate, as he also serves as the Sales Director of Mandalay Coffee Group and plays a vital role in the Myanmar Coffee Association, championing the growth and global recognition of Myanmar coffee.

The estate itself is a hub of agricultural innovation and expertise. Together with his uncle, aunt, two local agronomists, and a dedicated team of local workers, U Sai Wan cultivates a diverse array of coffee varieties. The majority of the farm is planted with Costa Rica—a robust Catimor variety—while SL34 makes up around 10% of the crop. Ever the innovator, U Sai Wan is also experimenting with exciting new varietals like Yellow Bourbon, Caturra, Catuai, and the prized Geisha, constantly pushing the boundaries of what Myanmar coffee can achieve.

Green Land Estate is not just a coffee farm; it’s a testament to U Sai Wan’s vision and commitment to excellence. His work is paving the way for Myanmar’s coffee industry, blending tradition with innovation, and bringing the rich flavors of this region to the world stage.

Meet your sourcing partner

Indochina

Established date 2015

Living in Bangkok in 2015, we were first introduced to specialty coffees from Thailand and surrounding countries. The skill and dedication of the coffee growing communities, processors and exporters we were fortunate to spend time with back then made a lasting impression. On our return to London, the rarity of Asian origins in the specialty coffee scene spurred us into creating Indochina Coffee, as a way to promote the breadth of high quality coffees from across this region.

The bitter truth is that almost all of the wealth derived from the coffee industry continues to bypass the indigenous communities who actually grow it. Responsibly traded specialty coffee has the potential to change this and genuinely improve the lives of coffee farmers and their families. We are committed to working with like-minded partners who share this vision for a fairer future.

Since our inception, we’ve focused on developing long term mutually respectful and beneficial relationships, working with the same producer and export partners since our first coffees landed in the UK in 2017. As we’ve expanded the origins we source from, Christian and Shirani continue to work on a personal level with every origin partners, with regular time spent at coffee farms and processing facilities during the harvest season, to fully appreciate and understand the context in which they are operating in.
