85.0 Cup Score

This exceptional coffee from Fuyan Farm offers a vibrant and intense flavour profile that is both refreshing and complex. With candy-like notes of blue raspberry, lychee, and purple grape, it’s a lively cup that immediately captures your attention. The dynamic flavours are the result of careful harvesting, where only the ripest cherries are selected by hand, ensuring a high-quality base for the coffee.

The cherries undergo a meticulous fermentation process, sealed in bags for a week to allow controlled fermentation that enhances the fruit-forward flavours. After fermentation, the cherries are carefully dried on raised beds, allowing them to retain their vibrant characteristics and clean profile. This attention to detail in processing brings out the coffee’s natural sweetness and crisp acidity, creating a smooth, well-rounded cup.

The work behind this coffee is a true collaboration between Mr. Li, Mrs. Na, and the Lahu pickers, whose dedication and expertise are evident in every sip. With its bright, candy-fruit flavours and refreshing finish, this coffee is a perfect example of Yunnan’s potential for producing exceptional, specialty-grade coffees.

Meet your producer

Name Mrs Na and Mr Li
Location Fuyan Farm, Menglian Dai, Lahu and Va Autonomous County, Yunnan, China See on a map

Fuyan Farm and Washing Station, managed by Mrs. Na and Mr. Li, is a true testament to dedication and passion for quality. Mr. Li, a native of Yunnan, moved to the Menglian region as a teenager and worked in both the rubber and tea industries before turning his focus to coffee. With Mrs. Na by his side, they’ve built strong relationships with the Lahu pickers, ensuring the farm’s coffees regularly achieve some of the highest Q scores in Yunnan.

The 80-acre farm, nestled at 1600 to 1700 meters in the Yunnan mountains, is a biodiverse paradise. Coffee plants grow among macadamia, fruit, and leguminous shade trees, creating a natural balance that nurtures both the crops and the environment. In addition to coffee, the farm produces 7 tons of specialty-grade tea each year. The farm’s diverse activities, from raising livestock to growing herbs and chilies, enhance its sustainability and vitality, all set against the stunning backdrop of the mountains.

Fuyan’s commitment to quality shines through in every aspect, from its sustainable practices to its careful, hands-on processing. With a focus on innovation and tradition, Fuyan produces exceptional coffee that showcases the best of Yunnan.

Meet your sourcing partner

Indochina

Established date 2015

Living in Bangkok in 2015, we were first introduced to specialty coffees from Thailand and surrounding countries. The skill and dedication of the coffee growing communities, processors and exporters we were fortunate to spend time with back then made a lasting impression. On our return to London, the rarity of Asian origins in the specialty coffee scene spurred us into creating Indochina Coffee, as a way to promote the breadth of high quality coffees from across this region.

The bitter truth is that almost all of the wealth derived from the coffee industry continues to bypass the indigenous communities who actually grow it. Responsibly traded specialty coffee has the potential to change this and genuinely improve the lives of coffee farmers and their families. We are committed to working with like-minded partners who share this vision for a fairer future.

Since our inception, we’ve focused on developing long term mutually respectful and beneficial relationships, working with the same producer and export partners since our first coffees landed in the UK in 2017. As we’ve expanded the origins we source from, Christian and Shirani continue to work on a personal level with every origin partners, with regular time spent at coffee farms and processing facilities during the harvest season, to fully appreciate and understand the context in which they are operating in.
