88.75 Cup Score

Placing fourth in Ethiopia's prestigious Cup of Excellence 2024, this remarkable 88.75-scoring coffee is a testament to the dedication and craft of Bekele Yutute, a third-generation coffee farmer from Dambi village in Sidama. Nestled in Ethiopia’s highlands, Bekele’s family farm thrives with coffee plants growing alongside bananas, false bananas, and avocados, which provide sustenance for his family. Coffee, however, is their livelihood—a crop that embodies their hopes and hard work.

Harvested between October 2023 and January 2024, this lot showcases the care and precision that define Bekele’s approach. After being hand-picked at peak ripeness, the cherries were meticulously processed at Dambi’s drying station. Every step was carefully monitored, with cherries hand-sorted and dried on raised African beds to ensure the highest quality.

The result is an extraordinary coffee that captures the essence of Sidama’s terroir and Bekele’s unwavering commitment to excellence. With its excellent cup score and captivating story, this coffee is more than a beverage—it’s a celebration of tradition, sustainability, and the pursuit of perfection.

About Mecota Trading

Mecota Trading is a coffee exporting company that works with smallholder coffee farmers in Ethiopia, paying them premium prices for their green and parchment coffees.

Established in 2023, Mecota was created with the goal of supporting smallholder coffee farmers by purchasing and consolidating their microlots into lots that are viable for export.

Mecota is eager to work with people who value transparent, traceable trade, and knowing more about those who grow and process the coffee they drink.

As a young company, Mecota’s current aim is to gain secure financing so that they can continue to pay the farmers they work with the best possible prices for their coffee. As for long term goals, Mecota would like to establish their own community washing and drying station in a location that’s central to all of their farmers.

Mecota Trading and coffee farmers

As of 2024, Mecota Trading works with 10 farmers in different regions of Ethiopia. They offer their farmers support during processing, providing information and guidance on techniques to produce specialty quality coffee. In the future, they would like to give farmers pre-financing, so that they can focus on cultivating exceptional coffees without having to worry about money.
