Grown in the high-altitude forests of Letefoho, Eratoi coffee is a reflection of the rich landscapes and traditional farming practices of Timor-Leste. Shade-grown under towering Ai-Kakeu (Casuarina) and Ai-Samtuku (Albizia) trees, these coffees benefit from the region’s organic approach—no chemical fertilisers, just natural compost that nurtures the soil and enhances flavour development. The cooler climate at 1,800 masl allows cherries to ripen slowly, creating a complexity in the cup that stands out.

With careful cultivation and a strong focus on quality, Eratoi’s producers consistently deliver coffees with bold, balanced flavours. Their dedication to maintaining healthy coffee forests and refining post-harvest techniques has led to remarkable improvements in both yield and cup quality. As Timor-Leste continues to build its reputation in the speciality coffee world, Eratoi remains one of the standout communities producing exceptional coffees that showcase the country’s potential

Nestled in the high-altitude coffee forests of Letefoho, under the gaze of Mount Ramelau, the Eratoi producer group is a shining example of dedication and progress in Timor-Leste’s coffee industry. This community of 40 smallholder farmers has worked tirelessly to improve yields, maintain healthy coffee forests, and refine their farming practices. Their commitment to quality and sustainability has made Eratoi one of the strongest producer groups in the region.

Led by Karst Organics’ field manager, Simao Pedro de Deus, Eratoi is not only producing exceptional coffee but also inspiring the next generation of farmers. With more young people now seeing coffee as a viable livelihood, the future of this community looks bright. We’re proud to support their work and bring their coffee to market, knowing each harvest reflects the skill and dedication of the people behind it.

Karst Organics

Countries of operation Timor-Leste
Established date 2017

Karst Organics is a relationship-driven green bean exporter and importer, dedicated to bridging the gap between the coffee farmers of Timor-Leste and specialty roasters. We spend half the year in Timor-Leste, including the entire harvest season in the mountains of Letefoho, working closely with our partner farmers across 144 households. This deep investment of time allows us to truly understand their communities, language, culture, and expectations, fostering transparency and stronger partnerships.

Our direct collaboration with producers within their coffee forests and households has naturally built a foundation of mutual trust and respect. Together, we navigate challenges and respond to needs as they arise, offering support wherever it’s needed. This includes direct investments in farm-level infrastructure, specialized training in processing specialty coffee, and hands-on assistance during critical harvest times—whether it’s lifting, carrying, picking, sorting, pulping, washing, or drying coffee.
