Green Coffee Beans For Aillio Roaster

Green Coffee Beans for Aillio Bullet Roasters

The Aillio Bullet is an induction-heated drum roaster that takes up to 1kg a batch, which puts it in a different place from most home machines: big enough to supply a café, small enough to sample a new lot in 300g. That range is why we stock coffees across every density and process, from soft natural Brazils to dense high-grown Kenyans, so you can use the Bullet's full control over power, fan and drum speed.

  • How much green coffee do I need for an Aillio Bullet?

Most Bullet owners roast between 500g and 800g a batch, where the drum has enough thermal mass to stay stable and the induction heating still has headroom. A 5kg bag gives you six to ten production roasts, and a 1kg bag is enough for a couple of test batches when you're dialling in a new coffee. If you're roasting to sell, a wholesale account unlocks 10kg and 20kg sizes.

  • Which green coffees suit the Bullet's induction heating?

Induction heats the drum directly and responds fast, so the Bullet handles dense, high-altitude washed coffees well. You can push energy early without the lag of a gas burner. Lower-density naturals and honey-processed lots need a gentler hand through the middle of the roast, as they take on heat quickly and can run ahead of you. Start those with a lower charge temperature and pull power back before first crack.

  • Getting started: first roasts on a new Bullet

Pick one or two forgiving coffees and roast them several times before branching out. A Brazil or Colombian from our staple range is predictable, so you can learn how your Bullet behaves rather than chasing the bean. Log every roast in RoasTime, change one variable at a time, and only then move on to seasonal and experimental lots, where small profile changes show up clearly in the cup.

Your questions, answered

Can I roast small sample batches on an Aillio Bullet?

Yes, though below about 300g the bean probe reads less reliably because there aren't enough beans covering it. For cupping new lots, 350–500g is a good compromise. Many roasters buy a 1kg bag of each candidate coffee, run two test roasts, then commit to a larger size.

How long does a roast take on an Aillio Bullet?

Most Bullet roasts take 9–14 minutes from charge to drop, depending on batch size and how far you develop the coffee. Larger batches and darker roasts sit at the longer end. Our guide to rate of rise explains how to read the curve RoasTime shows you.

Can I use an Aillio Bullet indoors?

Yes, with ventilation. The Bullet is electric, so there's no combustion, but roasting still produces smoke, especially at larger batches and darker roasts. Most owners vent the exhaust to a window or under a strong extractor.

What's the best green coffee to learn on with a Bullet?

A consistent, forgiving coffee such as a Brazil or Colombian from our staple range. Buy 5kg so you can roast it repeatedly while you learn how the Bullet's power, fan and drum settings change the cup.

How long do green coffee beans last, and how do you store them long term?
