Key Details:

Description

Two bags from the same origin can look identical and behave completely differently in the roaster. Moisture and density vary between lots and those variables directly affect how heat moves through the bean, how quickly development happens, and how forgiving a coffee will be.

The CoffMeter M1 measures both in under two seconds. It's a practical, accurate tool built for roasters who want more consistency without the complexity or cost of commercial-grade analysis equipment.

Moisture & Density in Under Two Seconds

Drop in your sample and the M1 returns a moisture reading to ±0.2% and a density reading to ±1g/L almost instantly. That's enough precision to meaningfully compare lots, track changes in green coffee over time, and make informed adjustments to your roast profile before you start.

What Can You Actually Do With This Information?

Moisture content affects how a coffee responds to heat. Higher moisture means slower drying, more energy required, greater risk of tipping or scorching if you don't adjust. Density tells you how hard or easy the bean structure is to break down - denser beans generally need more time and energy to develop fully. Knowing both before you roast means you're dialling in with data, not guesswork.

Works Across the Whole Supply Chain

The M1 isn't just useful at the roasting stage. It supports green beans, roasted beans, parchment, and dried cherries - so it's equally useful when evaluating new lots at intake, checking stored coffee for moisture drift, or tracking how a roast has developed post-drum.

Built for Regular Use

A 2500mAh battery gives you up to 10 hours of continuous use, charging fully in four hours via USB-C. It connects to DiFluid's CoffeeOS app via Bluetooth to log and track readings over time. Calibration is handled at home using the included standardised material - no lab required. Replacement calibration material will need to be purchased periodically.

The build quality is excellent — it has a nice heft to it and the metal housing feels like anodized aluminum. Nothing about it feels cheap. I calibrated it straight out of the box and tested around ten different beans from various origins. The readings have all fallen within a range that seems reasonable. I re-tested two samples after recalibration and the results barely moved - Blue Moon read 11.1% then 11.0%, a red honey read 9.3% then 9.2%. That kind of consistency is reassuring.

Frequent Questions

How much coffee do I need for a reading?

Around 150g of green coffee, depending on density. The M1 uses a volumetric chamber, so denser beans will weigh slightly more for the same volume.

Does the M1 measure water activity?

No - it measures moisture percentage and density. Water activity is a different measurement that tells you about microbial safety and long-term storage stability. If that's something you need, take a look at the CoffMeter W1.

What's the difference between the M1 and DiFluid's Omix?

The Omix measures the same things but adds water activity, roast colour, bean volume, and environmental conditions. It's built for more intensive use and is priced accordingly. The M1 gives you the two most actionable data points for home roasting at a significantly lower cost.

Does calibration expire?

The included calibration material has a limited shelf life. When it expires, replacement material needs to be purchased separately from DiFluid. Calibration itself is straightforward and done at home.

What's in the box?

CoffMeter M1, bean sweeper, USB-C cable, calibration material, carry case.
