Description

The Kaleido M2 is a genuine drum roaster built for someone who's outgrown a popper, a skillet, or a small fluid-bed machine and wants to actually learn roast profiling — not just start a roast and hope. It's the CE-certified M2 variant, independently verified for legal sale in the UK and EU.

It sits between your M1 and your M6: more batch capacity and the same full Artisan compatibility as the rest of the range, at a price built for a hobbyist or regular household roaster rather than a small business. Kaleido is now an official Artisan sponsor across the range, so on the Pro and Dual versions you're getting native, supported integration — not a workaround.

In simple terms: if you're currently doing several small roasts a week just to keep up, the M2's 400g batch size means you do that same volume in one or two sessions instead — with real control over the curve the whole way, and the compliance paperwork to back the machine up.

Built for Regular, Controlled Roasting

Right-sized for cutting your roast frequency
Owners moving up from smaller fluid-bed machines describe the jump to 400g batches as the difference between roasting most evenings and roasting once or twice a week for the same amount of coffee in the tin.

A genuine step into Artisan
Independent bean and environment probes feed a live curve straight to Artisan on Pro and Dual - the same software, the same vocabulary, that scales all the way up to the M10 if you ever outgrow this one.

Reliable in daily use
Owners report it holding up well over months of regular roasting. The most common gripe is an occasional Bluetooth reconnect on some laptops, a minor annoyance, not a sign of anything built badly.

Which version do I need?

  • Standard – Roasts entirely from the attached 7" touchscreen running Kaleido's own software. No computer needed. No Artisan connectivity.
  • Pro – No touchscreen. Driven by Artisan on your Windows or Mac laptop via USB , Wifi or Bluetooth. Kaleido's official Artisan sponsorship means it's properly supported, not an unofficial config file someone's shared online. The cheapest way in if you already know you want full control.
  • Dual – Both: touchscreen roasting straight out of the box, and Bluetooth Artisan when you want to go deeper. A nice way to hedge if you're not sure yet how far into profiling you want to go.

Can't be run from an iPad or iPhone - Artisan needs Windows or Mac, and the Kaleido system lives on the machine's own touchscreen (Standard/Dual only).

CE Certification: What It Means and Why It Matters

Is CE marking actually required, or just a nice-to-have?

It's a legal requirement. Under EU Directive 2014/30/EU (the EMC Directive), electrical equipment sold in the UK and EU must carry CE marking backed by a Declaration of Conformity. It isn't optional, and it isn't something a manufacturer can apply retroactively to a machine that wasn't tested - it's tied to the specific production batch that was actually submitted for testing.

Does every roaster with the same model name carry it?

Not necessarily. A machine can be sold under the same model name - M1, M2, M6, M10 - with or without having gone through certification testing, depending on which batch and which seller. The model name alone tells you nothing about compliance status.

What's actually certified here?

The different models we sell has been independently tested and verified by SGS-CSTC Standards Technical Services, confirmed compliant with EN IEC 55014-1:2021, EN IEC 55014-2:2021, EN IEC 61000-3-2:2019, and EN 61000-3-3:2013. We can provide the full verification document on request.

Why does this matter to you as the buyer?

Selling or importing non-compliant electrical equipment is a legal issue for the seller, not something that falls on you as the customer after the fact - but it's still worth confirming before you buy, especially when comparing prices across retailers. Ask any seller directly for their certification documentation for the specific unit they're shipping, not just the model name.

Who is the Kaleido M2 best suited for?

Anyone roasting regularly at home who's ready to swap a multi-evening routine for one or two proper sessions a week — without spending business-machine money to get there.

Upgraders from a popper, skillet, or small fluid-bed roaster who want real drum-roaster development and actual say over the curve, via Artisan.

Anyone who wants to learn roasting properly, not just operate a machine - Artisan is the same software the professionals use, so what you learn here carries straight over if you move up to an M10 or a Bullet down the line.

Probably not the one for you if you're hoping to sell roasted coffee at any real volume - folks who've tried that on a 400g machine are pretty consistent that the hourly economics just don't work once you count your own time (the M10 is the sensible starting point for that instead). And if you'd rather skip the software entirely and just press a button, our Standard variant or the M1 Lite will suit you better than Pro or Dual.

Ventilation

Even at 400g a batch, you'll get proper smoke past first crack - no roaster this size gets around that. Most owners just crack a window or door, or run some light flexible ducting outside. Worth knowing: Kaleido's own advice (true across the whole range) is not to hard-attach ducting straight onto the exhaust - instead, hover a wider intake funnel a few inches away, with a small inline extraction fan if you want a bit more pull.

Frequent Questions

How much coffee can the Kaleido M2 roast at one time?

Each batch is 50g–400g, and most owners settle around 280–300g green for the most even results. It roasts in 5–15 minutes plus 2–3 minutes cooling, so you can comfortably fit a few batches into one sitting.

Is the Kaleido M2 compatible with Artisan roasting software?

Yes, on the Pro and Dual versions, via USB or Bluetooth to Windows or Mac. Kaleido's an official Artisan sponsor now, so it's properly, natively supported rather than an unofficial workaround. The Standard version runs on Kaleido's own touchscreen software only, with no Artisan connection.

What's the difference between the Kaleido M2 Standard, Pro and Dual?

Standard gives you an onboard touchscreen running Kaleido's software with no Artisan link. Pro drops the touchscreen entirely and is Artisan-only via USB or Bluetooth — the cheapest way into full control. Dual gives you both: touchscreen roasting out of the box, and Bluetooth Artisan whenever you want to dig deeper.

Will the Kaleido M2 help me roast less often for the same amount of coffee?

For most people moving up from a smaller machine, yes. Owners upgrading from around 200g fluid-bed roasters commonly tell us they've gone from several evening roasts a week down to just one or two sessions, for the same total amount of coffee.

What power supply does the Kaleido M2 need? Does it need a dedicated circuit?

No dedicated circuit needed - it runs from a standard UK socket, same as the rest of the Kaleido range.

Can the Kaleido M2 be controlled from an iPad or iPhone?

No, unfortunately. Artisan needs Windows or Mac, and the Kaleido system runs on the machine's own touchscreen (Standard/Dual only) - there's no supported iOS route either way.

Is the Kaleido M2 good for a small coffee roasting business?

Not really, at meaningful volume. At up to 400g a batch, owners who've tried building a side business on it are pretty consistent that the hourly economics don't stack up once you factor in your own time, packaging and marketing. If that's the plan, our M10 (up to 1.2kg) is the sensible minimum most people land on instead.

Does the Kaleido M2 need ventilation or smoke extraction?

You'll get real smoke past first crack, even at these batch sizes. Most owners manage fine with a window, an open door, or some light flexible ducting rather than a full extraction setup - see Ventilation above for the details.

What warranty does the Kaleido M2 come with?

A minimum 12-month manufacturer warranty, backed up by our own 60-day money-back guarantee and price match promise.

Is the Kaleido M2 CE certified?

Yes — every M2 we sell is the CE-certified M2-C variant, verified by SGS-CSTC Standards Technical Services (Verification No. GZEM2512008407HSV, 6 July 2026), confirmed compliant with EN IEC 55014-1:2021, EN IEC 55014-2:2021, EN IEC 61000-3-2:2019+A1:2021+A2:2024, and EN 61000-3-3:2013+A1:2019+A2:2021 under EU Directive 2014/30/EU. We don't stock or sell an uncertified unit of any Kaleido model.

Why does CE certification matter when comparing roasters?

It's a legal requirement for electrical equipment sold in the UK and EU, not a marketing add-on. Certification applies to specific manufacturer batches, so it's not something you can assume is present just because two listings use the same model name. If price is the main thing you're comparing, ask the seller directly for their certification documentation before you buy.
