Description

The Kaleido M1 is the entry point into Kaleido's core roasting platform — the same independent-cooling, hot-air-circulation architecture as the M2, scaled down to a 50g–200g batch and a lower price. It's CE certified for sale in the UK and EU, and built for someone who wants genuine Artisan-capable drum roasting without the M2's larger footprint or 400g ceiling.

Choose your control at checkout, same as the rest of the range: Standard (Kaleido's own tablet, plug-and-roast), Pro (Artisan only, bring your own device), or Dual (tablet plus Artisan connectivity).

None of the M1's price advantage against the M2 comes from a simplified roasting system - the heating, cooling, and control architecture are the same family. What you're trading for the lower price is capacity: 200g rather than 400g per batch, and less headroom if you're planning to scale up later.

The Real Platform, Sized to Start

200g is enough for a moderate coffee drinker to roast once or twice a week rather than daily — plenty for a household finding its feet with drum roasting, without the reload-every-session grind of a smaller fluid-bed machine.

A genuine step into Artisan

Independent bean and environment probes feed a live curve straight to Artisan on Pro and Dual — the same software, the same vocabulary, that scales all the way up to the M10 if you ever outgrow this one.

Reliable in daily use

Owners report it holding up well over months of regular roasting. The most common gripe is an occasional Bluetooth reconnect on some laptops — a minor annoyance, not a sign of anything built badly.

What's in the Box?

  • Kaleido M1 roaster (probes pre-installed — no separate probe setup needed)
  • Cooling tray — ships fully assembled
  • Automatic chaff collector
  • Horizontal sampler with quartz viewing window
  • Removable power cable and external power switch
  • Tablet and charging cable (Standard and Dual control only)
  • USB cable for Artisan connection (Pro and Dual control only)
  • Tools & basic accessories
  • Documentation & warranty card

Which version do I need?

  • Standard – Roasts entirely from the attached 7" touchscreen running Kaleido's own software. No computer needed. No Artisan connectivity.
  • Pro – No touchscreen. Driven by Artisan on your Windows or Mac laptop via USB or Bluetooth. Kaleido's official Artisan sponsorship means it's properly supported, not an unofficial config file someone's shared online. The cheapest way in if you already know you want full control.
  • Dual – Both: touchscreen roasting straight out of the box, and Bluetooth Artisan when you want to go deeper. A nice way to hedge if you're not sure yet how far into profiling you want to go.

Can't be run from an iPad or iPhone - Artisan needs Windows or Mac, and the Kaleido system lives on the machine's own touchscreen (Standard/Dual only).

Ventilation requirements for the Kaleido M1

At 200g a batch, you'll get some smoke past first crack - noticeably less than you'd see from the M2 or M6, and most owners find an open window or door is enough without needing dedicated ducting. If you want more margin, especially roasting in an enclosed kitchen, the same light flexible ducting used across the range works here too. Worth knowing: Kaleido's own advice, true across the whole range, is not to hard-attach ducting straight onto the exhaust - instead, hover a wider intake funnel a few inches away, with a small inline extraction fan if you want more pull.

During this past year with the Kaleido brand roaster and learning on it, I personally like the roaster and would recommend it for beginners looking for an electric drum roaster.

I own both the M1 Lite and the M1 Pro - the Lite is a fun little roaster and not too different from the Pro, at a great price cut

The price point was a huge factor for me. I've been really pleased with the M1 as my first roaster and have no regrets.

Frequent Questions

Will the Kaleido tablet work with the M1?

Yes, on the Standard and Dual control options - the M1 Pro-control variant is Artisan-only, same as the M1 Lite.

Does the Kaleido M1 work on a standard UK/EU plug?

Yes. This version is 230V, single phase, built for UK mains - no transformer or adapter required. A EU-spec (Type E/F Schuko) version is also available.

Is the M1 good for a complete beginner?

Yes - more so than the M1 Lite if you pick Standard or Dual control, since the tablet interface removes the need to learn Artisan before your first roast. On Pro control, expect the same learning curve as the M1 Lite.

What batch size should I actually roast at?

The machine is rated up to 200g, but most owners settle into 130–170g batches for more even, controllable roasts.

Can I run the M1 from a Chromebook?

Only if you're on Standard control (tablet-driven, no computer needed at all). On Pro or Dual, Artisan requires Windows or Mac - Chromebooks aren't supported.

Can I roast back-to-back batches on the M1?

Yes. Once a roast finishes, expect around 5–10 minutes before your next batch to cool the beans and bring the drum back up to temperature.

What warranty does the Kaleido M1 come with?

A minimum 12-month manufacturer warranty, backed by our own 60-day money-back guarantee and price match promise.
