    The Kaffelogic Nano 7e does one thing extremely well: it roasts the same coffee the same way every single time.

    That sounds unremarkable until you have tried roasting without it. Most home roasting involves standing over a machine, listening for cracks, guessing at timings, and getting a slightly different result every go. The Nano 7e takes that away. You pick a roast profile, tell it how dark you want it, and it follows the curve to the gram and the second.

    The result is that your good roast stays good. When you find something you love, you can have it again next week, and the week after.

    It was designed and built in New Zealand, and it is small enough to live on a worktop. It roasts 120g of green coffee as standard, which makes about 100g roasted, or roughly a week of coffee for one person. Add the BOOST kit and you can go up to 200g, or down to 50g when you just want to try a sample.

    If you have never roasted before, that is fine. The machine comes ready to go, and the built-in profiles will get you a cup you are happy with on day one. If you want to go further, there is a free software suite, a very active community sharing profiles, and more depth than most people ever reach.

    Is the Kaffelogic the right roaster for me?

    It probably is if:

    You want good coffee without turning roasting into a second job. The profiles do the hard part.
    You drink somewhere between 100g and 500g of coffee a week. That is one or two roasts, or a handful with the BOOST kit.
    You care about repeating a roast rather than chasing a new one every time.
    You are short on space. It is about the size of a tall kettle.
    You want to sample-roast small lots of green before committing to a bigger buy.

    It probably is not if:

    You want to learn roasting by hand, with your own control of heat and airflow throughout. A drum roaster like the Kaleido M1 or M2 will teach you more, because you are doing the work rather than the machine.
    You need more than about 200g in a single batch. Look at the Aillio Bullet range instead.
    You are developing profiles to scale onto a commercial drum roaster. Air roasters and drum roasters behave differently, so a Nano 7e profile will not transfer across directly. It is excellent for deciding whether to buy a green coffee, less so for designing the roast you will run on a 15kg drum.

    Smoke, space and where you can roast

    It makes about as much smoke as frying food. Barely visible, but you will smell it.

    A normal kitchen extractor fan deals with it completely. A weaker fan leaves a pleasant smell of roasting coffee, which some people love and some do not. With no extraction at all, run an air purifier in the same room and roast one batch at a time.

    Three things worth knowing before you order.

    It can set off a smoke alarm. Better to know now than mid-roast.

    It stands 430mm tall with the chaff collector on, so measure under your extractor hood first. Leave 100mm from walls and 150mm from curtains.

    Roasting outdoors is not the easy fix it looks like. The roaster is sensitive to cold air and wind, and owners who roast on balconies or in open garages report the occasional aborted roast. Indoors with ventilation is the reliable option.

    If you are thinking about using it in a café or a commercial unit, check your fire system first. Kaffelogic advise against using it in a building where smoke detectors are wired to a sprinkler system or directly to the fire service. Plenty of small producers and cafés use these happily, but sort that out before you buy rather than after.

    Living above 500m? Run Kaffelogic's fan calibration when you set up. It takes a few minutes, and skipping it can mean beans that do not circulate properly. Ask us if you would like a hand.

    What it the Kaffelogic Nano 7 actually like to use

    Freshly roasted coffee beans from the Kaffelogic Nano 7e

    Weigh out 120g of green coffee, tip it in, put the chaff collector on top and press start. The default profile is called KL Explorer and it is a good all-rounder. If you want it darker, press plus first. Lighter, press minus.

    Ten minutes later the roast is done and the machine cools the beans back to room temperature on its own. Lift off the chaff collector, tip the beans out, and you are finished. You can start the next batch immediately.

    Every profile runs from level 0.1 to 5.9. Lower is lighter and shorter, higher is darker and longer. Around 2.5 suits filter and 3.0 suits espresso. If your coffee tastes burnt, drop the level. If it tastes sharp or hollow, raise it. One thing the manual does not spell out: the level is relative to the profile, not an absolute scale, so when you switch profiles expect to find your level again rather than assuming it carries over.

    Your beans will look slightly less uniform than a bag from a commercial roastery. That is normal for an air roaster, not a fault. Fast air roasting gives you clarity in the cup and a little more visible colour variation. Taste it before you judge it.

    Cleaning takes seconds. Brush the mesh disc in the lid after each roast and wipe the outside occasionally. Leave the oils in the roast chamber, they season it. Never touch the temperature probe tip.

    Delivery, plugs and what happens if it goes wrong

    Most problems turn out not to be faults. The two messages people see most are thermal runaway and heat too fast, and both usually mean the beans are not moving properly, which is normally a full chaff collector, a blocked air path, or too many beans for the profile. The fan preview mode built into the machine catches nearly all of these before they happen.
