Green Coffee Beans for Skywalker Roasters

Green Coffee Beans for Skywalker Roasters

Skywalker roasters are affordable electric drum roasters for home use. The V2 takes up to 500g, with controls for power, airflow and drum speed and Artisan support over USB or Bluetooth. They've made drum roasting accessible to a lot of new home roasters, and this collection is a good place to find coffees to learn on and to explore.

  • How much green coffee do I need for a Skywalker?

Most Skywalker owners roast 250–400g at a time. At that size, a 1kg bag gives you two to four roasts and a 5kg bag around fifteen. Start with 1kg bags while you learn, then buy 5kg of the coffees you settle on.

  • Which coffees suit a Skywalker?

A budget electric drum roaster has less power in reserve than a commercial machine, so very dense high-grown lots can be harder to fully develop at full batch size. Start with forgiving coffees: Brazils, naturals and lots from our staple range. Once you're confident, roast denser washed coffees at a slightly smaller batch.

  • Getting more from a Skywalker with Artisan

Connect your Skywalker to Artisan from the start, even if you roast by ear. A logged curve makes it obvious when a roast stalled or ran too fast, and lets you repeat a good roast on purpose. Change one setting at a time, such as power, airflow or batch size, and compare the cups.

Your questions, answered

Is a Skywalker a good first roaster?

It's a popular entry point into drum roasting because of its price and Artisan support. Pair it with forgiving coffees while you learn, and roast smaller batches of dense coffees so the heaters have enough headroom.

How long does a Skywalker roast take?

Most roasts take 10–15 minutes, depending on batch size and roast level. Connecting Artisan lets you watch your rate of rise and spot when a roast is stalling.

Can I use a Skywalker roaster indoors?

With good ventilation, yes. It's electric, but roasting still produces smoke and chaff, so most owners use it under an extractor or near an open window.

What's the best green coffee to start with on a Skywalker?

A forgiving coffee such as a Brazil from our staple range, roasted at a moderate batch size. Our guide to starting home roasting covers the stages to look and listen for.
