Description

Home roasting sounds like something only serious coffee nerds do. It's not. With the right setup, your first roast is about 15 minutes away and the coffee you'll make will be fresher than anything you can buy in a bag.

The question we get asked most is "where do I even start?" and our answer is always the Kaffelogic Nano 7e. We stock it because the team behind it genuinely care about what they're building, back it up with excellent support, and have created something that gives you professional-level roast control in a machine that sits on your kitchen counter. Pick a pre-built profile and press go, or get into the weeds on temperature curves and airflow it handles both brilliantly. It's the reason plenty of established roasters use it for sample roasting, and exactly why it's the machine we'd recommend to anyone starting out.

We've built this kit around it with that same thinking. Four greens from our Staples range covering different origins, processes and flavour profiles. The Boost Kit V2 to expand the machine's range from day one. A carry case, cupping spoon, and assessment tray so you can start evaluating your roasts properly. Nothing superfluous, nothing missing.

How to get the most out of your first roast

When your kit arrives, resist the urge to overthink it. Load up the Kaffelogic, pick one of the pre-loaded roast profiles, and press go. Your first roast is about getting comfortable with the process, the smell, the sound, the colour changes, not perfecting anything.

Once you've got that first batch under your belt, here's where the fun starts.

Start with one coffee, try different roast levels
Take one of your four greens and roast it three ways, light, medium, and dark - using the pre-loaded profiles. Taste them side by side and see which you prefer. You'll quickly realise how dramatically roast level changes the character of the same bean. This single exercise will teach you more about roasting than hours of reading about it.

Then flip it; same roast level, different coffees
Once you've found a roast level you like, run the same profile across all four coffees in the kit. The African Moon, the Decaf Quetzal, the Andrea Costa, the Regional Huila - they'll all behave slightly differently and taste completely different in the cup. This is where you start to understand how origin and processing interact with roast level.

When you're ready, start tweaking
The Kaffelogic makes it easy to experiment beyond the pre-loaded profiles. Once you've built up a feel for roast outcomes, what a light roast looks and smells like versus a medium, how different coffees develop at different rates the free Kaffelogic desktop app lets you start adjusting temperature curves, airflow, and development time. You don't need to go there on day one, but it's there when you're ready.

The beauty of this machine is that there's no ceiling. Most home roasters find they're still discovering new things about it a year in.

Understanding your green coffees

We've chosen four coffees for this kit that between them cover the main origins, processing methods, and flavour profiles you'll encounter as you get deeper into home roasting. They're all from our Staples range meaning we stock them year-round and they all cup above 83 points. Here's what you need to know about each one.

Uganda, Natural
A naturally processed DRUGAR (Dried Ugandan Arabica) from the Rwenzori Mountains. Natural processing means the coffee cherry is dried whole, which produces a fuller-bodied, fruit-forward cup. Expect dark chocolate, brown sugar, pecan, cashew, and plum. It's a bold, sweet coffee that works brilliantly as an espresso but holds its own as a filter too. A great one to start with if you like your coffee with some depth and sweetness.

Colombia, Washed
Our highest-scoring coffee in the kit and a classic example of what good washed processing does. The cherry is removed before drying, which gives you a cleaner, more defined cup you'll taste hazelnut, caramel, panela, orange peel, and apple. Washed Colombians are a reliable reference point in the roasting world, so this is a good one to keep coming back to as your skills develop. If you want to understand how roast level affects a coffee's clarity, this is your coffee.

Brazil, Natural
From a family farm in Brazil's Mogiana region that's been in the same hands since the 1960s. Sun-dried on stone patios for 14 days, this Red Catuai lot has classic Brazilian character; walnut, cocoa, and a natural sweetness that makes it one of the most forgiving coffees to roast. If you're nervous about your first few batches, start here. It's consistent, reliable, and hard to make taste bad.

Mexico, Mountain Water Decaf
Grown in the Sierra Madre de Chiapas and decaffeinated using the Mountain Water Process a chemical-free method that removes up to 99% of the caffeine while keeping the flavour intact. Bright orange and citrus notes with a brown sugar sweetness. We've included a decaf because it's genuinely worth knowing how to roast one they behave slightly differently to caffeinated greens and the results might surprise you. Perfect for evening roasting sessions too.

Which should I roast first?
If you want the most forgiving starting point, go with the Brazillian - it's consistent and hard to get wrong. If you want something that'll really show you what home roasting can do from the off, try the Ugandan. Either way, roast them all, that's the whole point.

What is the Boost Kit V2 and when should I use it?

The Boost Kit V2 is a hardware and software upgrade for the Kaffelogic Nano 7e that we've included in this kit from day one, because we think it's worth having right away rather than something you buy later when you wish you'd got it sooner.

Out of the box, the Kaffelogic Nano 7e roasts up to 120g per batch. With the Boost Kit V2 installed, that jumps to 200g, nearly double, and batch sizes become fully adjustable in 10g increments anywhere between 50g and 200g. That flexibility matters more than it might sound. Smaller batches are great for experimenting and testing new coffees without committing a larger quantity. Larger batches mean more coffee when you've found a profile you love and want to stock up.

What's actually in the box
The Boost Kit V2 includes two chamber extension rings - physical additions to the roasting chamber that allow the larger batch sizes to roast evenly and a software upgrade code that unlocks the Boost functionality in the free Kaffelogic Studio app. Installation is straightforward and doesn't require any tools.

How it works in practice
Once installed, you select your batch size directly from the roaster's startup menu. The Kaffelogic Studio software automatically adjusts airflow, temperature, and heating to match whatever size you've chosen, so you're not manually recalibrating anything, it handles it for you. When you're first getting started with larger batches, Kaffelogic recommend beginning at 150–160g to let the machine calibrate to your specific beans before pushing to the full 200g.

When should I start using it?
Honestly, whenever you feel ready. For your very first roasts, the standard profiles at 100–120g are the easiest way to get comfortable with the process. Once you've done a few batches and you're confident in what you're doing, start experimenting with larger sizes. You'll notice how batch size affects development and flavour — and that's when things start to get really interesting.

I've had the Kaffelogic for just over a year. The built-in profiles work well with every coffee I've tried. I've roasted my own and bought the same beans from professional roasters to compare - the Kaffelogic roasted beans easily compete, and generally it's the winner. It's a great way to roast with minimal fuss.

I've had the Nano7 for almost a year and absolutely love it. Easy setup, compact design, and the roasting capacity is good. I love experimenting with the different profiles - I've been blending east African and south American varieties for use on my Rancilio Sylvia. It's built to last. Brilliant customer support too.

I've had my Kaffelogic for almost 4 years, taking me from roasting at home to using it as a sample roaster in a roastery. It gives as much granularity and control as you could ever need, but is just as happy running on a supplied profile. Not a single issue in hundreds of roasts.

How we package
our coffees

Barrier packaging designed for specialty coffee.

We use Ecotact bags because they offer high-barrier protection against oxygen, moisture, and external contaminants. This helps preserve the quality, aroma, and flavour potential of your green coffee during transport and storage. They're trusted by top producers and importers worldwide.

Heat-Sealed for Maximum Protection

Every bag is professionally heat sealed at our warehouse to lock in freshness. This creates a secure seal that prevents exposure to air or humidity - keeping your green coffee stable, even over long periods.

Convenient Resealable Zip Closures

Once opened, each bag has a resealable zip to help you store and protect the rest of your coffee between roasts. It’s a simple way to reduce waste and maintain freshness - especially helpful for home roasters or sampling.

Portion sizes for any roaster.

Whether you're roasting at home or running a production line, we've got a size to suit. Choose from 0.5kg, 1kg, or 5kg bags - all packed with the same level of care. Smaller volumes make it easy to try new coffees without the commitment.

Responsible packaging choices.

Our bags are made from Graded 7 multi-layer recyclable plastic. While they may not go in your home recycling bin, they are accepted by specialist facilities. More importantly, they reduce waste by dramatically extending the shelf life of your green coffee.

Frequent Questions

Is the Kaffelogic Nano 7e good for beginners?

Absolutely. It's probably the most beginner-friendly precision home coffee roasting machine available. Pre-built roast profiles mean you can get great results from your very first batch without knowing anything about roast development and as your confidence grows, the machine grows with you.

Do I need any experience to use this kit?

None at all. Everything you need is included, and the Kaffelogic's pre-built profiles take the guesswork out of your first few roasts. If you want to go deeper, the free Kaffelogic app lets you start experimenting with your own profiles whenever you're ready.

How long does a roast take?

A typical roast on the Kaffelogic takes around 8–15 minutes depending on the profile and roast level you're going for. Factor in a short cooling cycle and you're looking at fresh coffee in under 20 minutes.

How much coffee does it roast at a time?

Up to 120g per batch without the boost kit and 200g with the boost kit. Roughly enough for 8–10 cups depending on your brew method. The beauty of home roasting is that you roast little and often, so your coffee is always fresh.

Does home roasting produce a lot of smoke?

It can do, depending on how dark you roast. The Kaffelogic is one of the lower-smoke home roasters out there - its fluidised air system is cleaner than drum roasters, but we'd still recommend roasting near an open window or under an extractor fan, especially if you're pushing towards darker roast levels. A lot of home roasters do it in the kitchen with a window open and have no issues at all. If you're in a smaller space or sensitive to smoke, starting with lighter roast profiles is a good shout until you get a feel for it.

Why are the coffees green (unroasted)?

Green coffee is shelf-stable for up to two years, which means you can take your time and roast only what you need. Once roasted, coffee is best used within 2–4 weeks — so roasting small batches regularly is actually a better way to stay in fresh coffee than buying pre-roasted bags.

Can I use any green coffee with the Kaffelogic?

Yes, once you've worked through the four coffees in this kit, you can order any green coffee from our range. We stock 40+ options at any one time, from everyday Staples to rare single lots, and we can help you choose what to try next based on what you've enjoyed roasting so far.

Will the coffees in the kit change?

The four greens we've chosen are all from our Staples range - coffees we stock year-round because they're consistently available and reliably excellent. Occasionally we may swap one for an alternative of equivalent quality and value, but we'll always let you know if that happens.

Do I need a grinder?

Yes, you'll need to grind your roasted coffee before brewing. We'd also recommend leaving your freshly roasted beans to rest for 24–48 hours before grinding, to let the CO₂ dissipate and the flavours settle. After that, grind fresh for every brew for the best results.
