Grown in the fertile soils of Sumatra’s Kerinci region, near the island’s largest national park, ALKO coffee offers more than just exceptional taste—it’s a story of sustainability and empowerment. With over 400 farmers in its cooperative, ALKO uses blockchain technology to trace every bean from farm to cup, ensuring transparency and protecting the park’s precious ecosystem, home to the critically endangered Sumatran tiger. This innovative approach not only safeguards the environment but also ensures farmers receive fair pay, creating a stronger, more equitable future for their communities.

Each bean is crafted through a meticulous full-wash process that begins with pulping the cherries and fermenting them in water for up to 100 hours. After thorough washing, the beans are dried for 20 days to achieve a perfect moisture level, before being hulled, sorted, and graded. The result is a coffee with herbal and spicy notes, a smooth, balanced body, and deep tobacco and woody undertones that linger beautifully. Perfect as a single-origin brew or cold brew, its well-rounded acidity enhances every sip. Choosing ALKO coffee means savouring exceptional flavour while supporting sustainable farming and fair livelihoods.

ALKO is a cooperative of over 400 farmers in the Kerinci region of Sumatra, located near the island’s largest national park, home to the critically endangered Sumatran tiger. The cooperative uses innovative blockchain technology to trace the journey of coffee from farm to cup, ensuring sustainability and transparency. This technology not only helps prevent farmers from encroaching on the park’s protected land but also gives them better control over pricing. By offering full visibility into the supply chain, ALKO ensures farmers are paid fairly, boosting their livelihoods and creating a more equitable system for everyone involved.

Women are at the heart of ALKO's success. They play pivotal roles in managing operations, from coffee processing to providing training and educational support for farmers. This focus on female leadership strengthens the entire community, fostering a more inclusive and supportive environment. Through this combination of technology, empowerment, and collaboration, ALKO is creating a model for sustainable agriculture that benefits both the farmers and the fragile ecosystems they depend on. It's a win-win for the people and the planet.
