This honey-processed Red Bourbon comes from Rugali washing station, run by Muraho Trading Co. in Rwanda’s Nyamasheke District. Built in 2016, Rugali was one of the first stations in the country legally authorised to produce and export honey and natural coffees - helping open the door for more processing innovation in Rwanda.

Muraho works closely with smallholder farmers in the region, providing training, infrastructure, and access to international markets. Rugali now produces around 54,000kg of green coffee a year and has built a strong reputation for consistent quality and well-executed processing.

For this honey lot, cherry is hand-sorted, floated, and pulped with most of the mucilage left intact. It’s then dried slowly on raised beds, starting in thin layers for maximum sun exposure before being heaped to encourage even drying. The result is a clean, structured cup that reflects both careful processing and the producer-led work behind it.

Rugali is one of Muraho Trading Co.’s standout washing stations, based in the Nyamasheke District of western Rwanda. Since its establishment in 2016, it’s been at the forefront of specialty coffee in the country - not just in quality, but in breaking new ground. Rugali, alongside its sister station Kilimbi, was among the first in Rwanda to be licensed for natural and honey processing, setting a new standard for what Rwandan coffee could be.

The station processes cherry from surrounding smallholders, with support from Muraho to improve quality, increase incomes, and connect producers to new markets. With ideal drying conditions, solid infrastructure, and a clear focus on impact, Rugali has quickly become a reference point for high-quality Rwandan coffee.
