This natural-processed lot comes from Mount Sunzu, a farm based in Mbala, northern Zambia, near the country’s highest peak. Founded by a team of Swiss entrepreneurs in 2018, Mount Sunzu is building a new kind of coffee farm - one that pairs high-quality production with a climate-positive model and strong local employment. Of the farm’s 780 hectares, 115 are under coffee, while 600 are being actively reforested with native Miombo woodland.

Cherries for this lot were selectively picked, floated, and then dried slowly over 30 days on raised beds, with careful protection from rain and overnight moisture. Once dried, the coffee was hulled, graded, hand winnowed and sorted on-site at Mount Sunzu’s dry mill - part of a vertically integrated operation designed to control quality at every stage.

Mount Sunzu Coffee is a modern farm in northern Zambia, near the country’s highest mountain. Founded by Luca Costa, Fridolin Stocker, and Yanik Costa, it combines high-quality coffee production with a strong environmental and social mission. The team secured a 780-hectare site in Mbala in 2018 and have since transformed it into a forward-thinking agricultural model.

115 hectares are planted with coffee, with more under development, while 600 hectares of Miombo forest are protected and being actively reforested. The farm uses solar-powered irrigation, processes coffee on-site using washed, honey and natural methods, and supports biodiversity through beekeeping.

Alongside its environmental goals, Mount Sunzu provides fair, year-round employment to over 120 local staff, plus seasonal work. Wages include pension, health insurance and accident cover. The farm also invests in infrastructure, including an 8km road network, with future plans for clean water and solar access in the surrounding community.

Mount Sunzu’s goal is simple but ambitious: to prove that climate-smart, socially responsible coffee farming can deliver exceptional quality — and lasting impact.
