La Reserva Kanaa is one of Ecuador’s most exciting emerging farms. Led by David Quevedo, it has already gained Cup of Excellence recognition and is producing standout coffees. Located in the humid Amazonian province of Zamora Chinchipe, the farm faces challenging drying conditions. To ensure quality, David transports his coffee to Loja, where the cooler, drier climate allows for a slower, more controlled drying process.

This lot is an anaerobic washed coffee, carefully fermented in two stages. Whole cherries undergo 48 hours of fermentation in sealed plastic tanks before being pulped and returned for a second fermentation lasting 72 hours. Once complete, the coffee is transported to Loja, where it dries under ideal conditions to preserve clarity and balance.

La Reserva Kanaa is Makicuna’s newest partner and one to watch. Led by young producer David Quevedo, this farm is already making an impact, earning recognition from the Cup of Excellence and producing some truly exciting coffees.

Located in Ecuador’s Amazonian province of Zamora Chinchipe, the farm faces the challenges of high humidity, making drying a constant battle. To ensure quality, David and his family transport the coffee to Loja, where the cooler, drier climate allows for a slower, more controlled drying process.

The farm sits between five natural reserves—Yacuri, Jocotoco, Cerro Plateado, and Tapichalaca—surrounded by Ecuador’s rich biodiversity. It has been in the Quevedo family since the 1940s when David’s grandfather moved from Loja city. Today, David cultivates Geisha, Sidra, Wush Wush, and Typica Mejorado, experimenting with different processes while also producing exceptional washed, natural, and honey coffees.
