This anaerobic natural coffee from Basha Bekele is an exceptional lot, scoring an impressive 90.0 on the cupping table. Basha has spent years perfecting his craft, moving beyond cooperative sales to process and export his own coffee. His focus on quality is evident, from meticulous cherry selection to careful fermentation, ensuring a clean and expressive cup.

Cupping Notes

This coffee delivers a vibrant and juicy profile with remarkable clarity and balance. The fragrance and aroma are bright and clean, leading into a flavour-packed cup bursting with raspberry, mango, pineapple, passion fruit, and bergamot. Layers of dark chocolate, caramel, black tea, and honey round out the profile, offering a silky mouthfeel and lingering sweetness. The acidity is lively yet refined, complementing a well-structured body. The finish is fresh and complex, making this coffee a standout for those seeking expressive and fruit-forward Ethiopian naturals.

Name Mecota Trading
Year Started 2023
Location Nefassilk Lafto, Addis Ababa See on a map

Mecota Trading is a coffee exporting company that works with smallholder coffee farmers in Ethiopia, paying them premium prices for their green and parchment coffees.

Established in 2023, Mecota was created with the goal of supporting smallholder coffee farmers by purchasing and consolidating their microlots into lots that are viable for export.

Mecota is eager to work with people who value transparent, traceable trade, and knowing more about those who grow and process the coffee they drink.

As a young company, Mecota’s current aim is to gain secure financing so that they can continue to pay the farmers they work with the best possible prices for their coffee. As for long term goals, Mecota would like to establish their own community washing and drying station in a location that’s central to all of their farmers.

As of 2024, Mecota Trading works with 10 farmers in different regions of Ethiopia. They offer their farmers support during processing, providing information and guidance on techniques to produce specialty quality coffee. In the future, they would like to give farmers pre-financing, so that they can focus on cultivating exceptional coffees without having to worry about money.
