Blessing and Waluya’s coffee is a remarkable product of sustainable farming and wildlife conservation. A collaboration between local farmers and the Little Fireface Project, it supports the endangered Javan slow loris by promoting wildlife-friendly practices. Grown in home gardens near the Gunung Papandayan Protected Forest, the coffee is cultivated using organic methods alongside crops like tea and cassava, preserving the delicate ecosystem. The farmers, who earned organic certification in 2019, use natural processing methods that involve drying the coffee with the fruit still on the bean, adding complexity and richness to the cup.

The result is a coffee with vibrant notes of grapefruit and smooth milk chocolate. The natural processing method enhances its depth, offering a lively acidity and a balanced, full body that holds up beautifully in espresso form.  Not only does this coffee support local livelihoods, but it also delivers an exceptional, sustainable cup that’s ideal for espresso lovers.

Cupping Notes

This coffee, with its bright grapefruit acidity and smooth milk chocolate sweetness, is particularly well-suited for espresso. The lively acidic notes cut through the rich, chocolaty body, creating a balanced and vibrant coffee. The medium body provides a satisfying mouthfeel, while the aftertaste is clean and refreshing, leaving a lingering hint of both chocolate and grapefruit.

Blessing and Waluya, in partnership with the Little Fireface Project (LFP) and led by Professor Anna Nekaris OBE, is a unique initiative that combines wildlife conservation with sustainable coffee farming. Focused on protecting the endangered Javan slow loris, the project works with local farmers to promote wildlife-friendly practices. The coffee is grown in home gardens across 60 hectares, near the Gunung Papandayan Protected Forest, providing a natural habitat for both wildlife and the community.

The hand-picked Arabica coffee is cultivated alongside crops like tea, chayote, and cassava, all under the shade of trees. This sustainable farming approach supports biodiversity while offering farmers multiple income streams. Since 2016, farmers have received training in organic practices and coffee processing, and in 2019, they achieved organic certification. The result is a high-quality coffee that not only benefits local livelihoods but also helps preserve the habitat of the Javan slow loris and other wildlife.
