Colombia’s unique geography plays a big role here. The country’s high altitudes, frequent rainfall, and mild climate provide ideal conditions for coffee growth. What also makes Colombian coffee unique is the country’s dedication to quality. Nearly all coffee in Colombia is arabica, which is known for its nuanced flavours and complexity, offering a distinct edge for roasters looking to create memorable profiles.

Colombia has a unique advantage in coffee production—it’s able to export year-round. This is largely due to its “bimodal” climate, which means different regions experience two harvests each year. The primary harvest, called the “main crop,” occurs from October to December, while a smaller “mitaca” harvest happens between April and June.

This dual harvest allows Colombian producers to supply fresh coffee throughout the year. Since coffee quality is closely tied to freshness, this is an incredible benefit for roasters worldwide.
