This exceptional coffee is crafted by second-generation farmer Negash Abarago on his family’s farm in the Kedamesa village. Negash has spent over a decade perfecting the art of coffee cultivation, a skill inherited from his parents. Alongside growing bananas, avocados, and false bananas to nourish his family, coffee serves as a vital source of income—a true labor of love for Negash and his family.

The 74110 and 74112 varietal cherries were hand-picked, sorted, and processed using a traditional washed method. After being pulped and soaked overnight, the beans were washed again the next morning before being dried on raised African beds. Throughout the 10–12 days of drying, careful attention was given to protect the coffee from rain and intense sunlight, ensuring optimal flavour development.

The result is a vibrant and juicy cup with bright notes of orange zest and the sweetness of ripe plum. Subtle hints of black tea provide a refined structure, while delicate almond undertones add warmth and depth. This clean and balanced coffee is a testament to the dedication of Negash Abarago and the rich traditions of Ethiopian coffee farming.

About Mecota Trading

Mecota Trading is a coffee exporting company that works with smallholder coffee farmers in Ethiopia, paying them premium prices for their green and parchment coffees.

Established in 2023, Mecota was created with the goal of supporting smallholder coffee farmers by purchasing and consolidating their microlots into lots that are viable for export.

Mecota is eager to work with people who value transparent, traceable trade, and knowing more about those who grow and process the coffee they drink.

As a young company, Mecota’s current aim is to gain secure financing so that they can continue to pay the farmers they work with the best possible prices for their coffee. As for long term goals, Mecota would like to establish their own community washing and drying station in a location that’s central to all of their farmers.

Mecota Trading and coffee farmers

As of 2024, Mecota Trading works with 10 farmers in different regions of Ethiopia. They offer their farmers support during processing, providing information and guidance on techniques to produce specialty quality coffee. In the future, they would like to give farmers pre-financing, so that they can focus on cultivating exceptional coffees without having to worry about money.
