Black Honey Green Coffee Beans

Black Honey Green Coffee Beans

Unroasted black honey green coffee for roasters. Black honey keeps the most mucilage of any honey style and dries slowly, often in shade, so it develops a syrupy body and fruit that edges towards a natural. Lots are small and seasonal – if nothing's listed below, see our wider honey process range or yellow honey. Looking for roasted coffee? These are raw beans you roast yourself – here's how to start.

  • What makes black honey different

The coffee is depulped but left with all or nearly all of its mucilage, then dried slowly – in shade or under cover, with little turning – so drying takes longer and more fermentation happens along the way. It's the most labour-intensive and riskiest honey style. See black honey processing in our glossary.

  • Roasting black honey coffee

Black honeys behave more like naturals: plenty of surface sugar, quicker colouring and more risk of scorching. Use a gentler start and controlled development. Expect a heavy, syrupy body with dark fruit, molasses and cacao.

  • Black honey vs natural

A natural dries in the whole cherry; black honey has the skin and pulp removed first, so drying is more even and the cup is usually cleaner, while still big on fruit and body. See our natural process range.

Your questions, answered

What is black honey coffee?

A honey processed coffee dried with all or nearly all of its mucilage on, slowly and often in shade. It's the heaviest, fruitiest honey style.

Why is black honey coffee more expensive?

Slow drying needs more space, time and attention, and the risk of over-fermentation is higher, so producers usually save it for small, high-quality lots.

Does black honey coffee taste like natural coffee?

It's closer to natural than other honey styles – heavy body, dark fruit, sweetness – but usually cleaner, because the skin and pulp come off before drying.

Do you offer samples or trial batches before committing to larger orders?

Yes, we offer samples for most of our coffees. If you need a larger sample than what’s typically available, we recommend trying one of the smaller quantity options listed on our site. That way, you can test the coffee before committing to a larger order.

What sizes or quantities can I order?

We offer coffee starting from as little as 0.5kg (1 lb) all the way up to full sacks. If you’re looking for larger quantities than what’s listed on our site, just get in touch! We’d be happy to help you organise and place a custom order. We're here to make sure you get exactly what you need.
