  • About Aguilera Coffee Traders

Aguilera Coffee Traders was founded in 2022 by Dylan Aguilera, a third-generation coffee producer and Licensed Q Grader from Costa Rica's West Valley. Dylan is one of twelve siblings - the Hermanos Aguilera - a family that has been growing coffee in the West Valley for over 60 years and is among the most respected names in the region. More than 15 years ago, the family made a deliberate shift toward specialty production, and since then they have been recognised in the Cup of Excellence every year for over a decade.

The coffees Aguilera Coffee Traders exports are the family's own - grown on their own farms, processed by their own team, and selected by Dylan himself. Across multiple farms in the West Valley, the family cultivates over 35 different Arabica varieties, alongside a range of both established and experimental processing methods. In 2023, Dylan earned the title of Costa Rican Cup Tasting Champion, adding formal recognition to the generational expertise he brings to every export.

For roasters buying through GCC, this is as direct as direct trade gets: the person exporting the coffee is the same person who grew it, processed it, and evaluated it - a third-generation farmer with a Q Grader's palate and a family record that puts them among Costa Rica's most decorated specialty producers.

  • The Hermanos Aguilera

The Aguilera family - twelve siblings known in the West Valley as the Hermanos Aguilera - have been growing coffee in Costa Rica for over 60 years. Their name has long been associated with quality in the region, but it was their decision more than 15 years ago to shift focus toward specialty production that truly set them apart. Emerging in the specialty market in the early 2000s, the family built a reputation that has been reinforced by consistent Cup of Excellence recognition every year for the past 15 years.

Across their farms in the West Valley, the Hermanos Aguilera cultivate over 35 different Arabica varieties - a breadth of genetic material that reflects both a serious commitment to quality research and a genuine curiosity about what the region's terroir can express across different plants and processes. Alongside established varietals, the family also works with experimental processing methods, pushing the boundaries of what Costa Rican specialty coffee can be.

Dylan Aguilera, the third generation of the family and a Licensed Q Grader, founded Aguilera Coffee Traders in 2022 to take this coffee directly to roasters around the world. In 2023 he was named Costa Rican Cup Tasting Champion - a recognition of the sensory expertise he brings to selecting and communicating about the coffees he exports.

  • The West Valley

Costa Rica's West Valley is one of the country's eight recognised coffee-growing regions, situated in the western highlands of the Central Mountain Range at elevations between approximately 1,200 and 1,900 metres above sea level. The region's volcanic soils, distinct microclimates, and well-defined dry season create conditions well suited to producing structured, clean, and complex coffees. It is the home region of the Aguilera family and the base from which Aguilera Coffee Traders sources.

  • Direct Trade from Producer to Roaster

very lot Dylan exports is grown on the Aguilera family's own farms. That means the traceability is complete and unambiguous - from the specific farm and variety through to the process and the export record. When Dylan describes a coffee, he is describing something he grew, processed, and selected himself.

For roasters, this level of directness is rare. It means the person you buy from is the person who made the decisions that shaped the cup - not a trading company several steps removed from the farm. And it means that when the coffee is exceptional, the people responsible for that are receiving the price that reflects it.

How we package
our coffees

Barrier packaging designed for specialty coffee.

We use Ecotact bags because they offer high-barrier protection against oxygen, moisture, and external contaminants. This helps preserve the quality, aroma, and flavour potential of your green coffee during transport and storage. They're trusted by top producers and importers worldwide.

Heat-Sealed for Maximum Protection

Every bag is professionally heat sealed at our warehouse to lock in freshness. This creates a secure seal that prevents exposure to air or humidity - keeping your green coffee stable, even over long periods.

Convenient Resealable Zip Closures

Once opened, each bag has a resealable zip to help you store and protect the rest of your coffee between roasts. It’s a simple way to reduce waste and maintain freshness - especially helpful for home roasters or sampling.

Portion sizes for any roaster.

Whether you're roasting at home or running a production line, we've got a size to suit. Choose from 0.5kg, 1kg, or 5kg bags - all packed with the same level of care. Smaller volumes make it easy to try new coffees without the commitment.

Responsible packaging choices.

Our bags are made from Graded 7 multi-layer recyclable plastic. While they may not go in your home recycling bin, they are accepted by specialist facilities. More importantly, they reduce waste by dramatically extending the shelf life of your green coffee.
