It's a natural, grown at Rwamatamu's Mbare washing station by 29 farmers in the Nyamasheke District, led by farmer Egide Vuguzigire. Rwamatamu itself was founded in 2015 by husband-and-wife team Gaston Rutaganda and Laetitia Mukantwaza, who between them already had 13 years' experience in Rwanda's coffee sector - building the company as much around fair wages and community support as around the coffee itself. Mbare is their newer site, opened in 2023 in an area where coffee had traditionally taken a back seat to other crops.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eThe processing tells you exactly why this lot is different. Cherries are spread onto drying beds and hand-sorted in direct sun for 24 hours, then heaped together and covered with a shade net for 48 hours of dry fermentation - a technique that departs entirely from Mbare's usual washed method.
